We may be currently deep in the heart of Texas but I, Jennifer, owner of Polka Dot Peacock, am an LSU graduate. And tonight, in case your family doesn’t live and breathe sports as much as mine does, LSU plays for the BCS National Championship. I’ve been sporting my purple and gold all day, dressed my dear Henry (my 4-year-old) in his favorite LSU t-shirt, threw out a few “Geaux Tigers” (to others with an obvious amazing sense of style, similarly styled in fabulous purple and gold) at our local elementary school when I picked up the twins… and I’m hoping for an LSU victory.

I love the idea of using ‘traditional’ male colors for a feminine space with an über feminine twist. This area possesses a great balance of clean modern with curvy trad, and when paired with this soft color combo, will provide a wonderful backdrop for her childhood years. With tints of blue and green, dominated by a calming white, the room is a sure win for your little girl.

1. Starting out with this adorable blue child-sized chair from Jennifer Delonge in a modern retro-esque vibe, this is sure to be a space she will love for hours of reading and playing.

2. This table beside her bed (the Dorothy Table from Arteriors Home), provides the perfect resting place for her favorite trinkets, a bedtime story, or an always necessary bedtime glass of water.

3. A bunk bed is an unlikely choice for such a simple, feminine space. But whether it’s a shared space or just room for one, it’s still a great option for slumber parties galore, as well as future siblings.

These fun, classic colors with a feminine twist and complimentary hues are a great balance for a little girl’s space. What accessories would you love to add?

The trending topic, and super exciting direction new moms and dads to be are taking, is the “surprise baby” approach: right up until that final moment of delivery, their new bundle of joy remains a complete mystery in terms of gender. The challenge, however, is to create a nursery to suit both a male and a female. If you haven’t noticed, these are my favorite spaces to create, and I love the idea of choosing a space both a boy or a girl could use. Especially for future additions to the family, no matter what their gender. The biggest hold up, however, tends to be taking a leap of faith in the design of their child’s room on the parent’s part, but not knowing what their sweet addition will be can be half the fun.

1. These counting animal flash cards from eeBoo would make the perfect bunting for a room, with a vintage feel and charming use of color. When used with twine and sweet little clothes pins, something functional can become an instant masterpiece.

2. The Oeuf Robin crib keeps the room fresh and unpredictable with simple, clean lines and light colors.

3. This DwellStudio glider in a classic, linen finish provides the perfect space for rocking your new little one.

4. A charming chandelier provides fresh pops of color and a great organic shape.

This wraps up our design board for a gender neutral approach. Once again, a great option for moms and dads, to be! A classic color scheme in blues and browns, to work either way. What other color combos could also work in this direction?

Take a walk on the wild side in this sweet swingin’ safari nursery for a little boy. Hits of fun colorful accents, paired with great bones to last a lifetime really make this space a fun place for your little one.

1. Serving as our springboard for color scheme of the room, these Annette Tatum fabrics would make an excellent choice as bedding for the space.

2. The chest from Bradshaw Kirchofer in this easy, light yellow finish brings in a hint of color, while keeping the space fresh. It brings in a nice traditional contrast to the already modern, additional lines.

3. The Oilo pendant light simply furthers the unofficial “theme” of the room with its subtle pattern, and brings the eye upward with a soft grey color.

4. This yellow paint color envelops the space and brings all the pieces together.

5. This handsome glider from DwellStudio provides the perfect place for hours of rocking. Its neutral tones work beautifully with the room.

So there you have it: A sweet swingin’ safari of a gently themed nursery, with shots of color to balance the neutral, and both traditional and modern touches to provide a great space for him in the years to come. I’m not really sure what rock I’ve been living under, but when I spied this bedding set from Rikshaw Design, I knew an entire space must be inspired from of this color scheme, and over all feel. A well-traveled, organic eclectic feel gives this space great bones, beautiful color, and a fabulous room to grow on.

1. I’ll start with the bedding for this space, but this Udaipur crib set is full of colorful goodness and a cuddly bundle you’ll love for baby. For the entire look, add the Oeuf Classic Crib!

2. + 4. A swoon-worthy rug from DwellStudio to bring the space together: I love it’s geometric shapes, which contrast beautifully with these Sally Bennet canvas reproductions chosen for the space. Their hues work together to complement the bedding, as well as the rest of the colors chosen for the space.

3. Accent pieces like this adorable elephant pillow, and Serena and Lily lamp, are sure to be treasured items for years to come.

5. This Bradshaw Kirchofer dresser brings in a nice, soft feminine touch, to contrast unexpectedly with the modern crib and chair. It adds to the interest of the space. With pops of color in these pretty knobs, they add a touch of glimmer.

6. This handsome Oilo glider would work for either gender, but I love the shot of lime thrown in for the piping.

7. This bookshelf adds ample storage for the space, and is a piece she’ll use for her entire childhood. When backed in this pretty Little House fabric, the piece feels collected, like a treasure for the room.

8. Something to make: a twine chandelier. You can follow these step by step simple directions from here. I love the handmade element it brings into the space.

9. This color envelopes the room in a soft, safe pink.

10. The Serena and Lily Curvee Table is a sure win, and a fabulous surface to stash the latest bedtime story. I would love to see it in this color, to bring in a color from the bedding, and offer another finish for the furniture in the space.

This may be my favorite room to date: {I know, I say that every time} with shots of bright colors, and pieces to cherish for years to come. What would you add to the space, if it were your own?

This masculine big boy’s room with touches of modern, is a great example of how you can mix many different colors, to add personality and contrast to your every day furnishings.

1. The modern Sparrow bed from Oeuf is the perfect little addition, in a bold grey and natural contrast.

2. The Annette Tatum Bingo Indigo bedding is predominately navy with touches of a neutral, but when thrown together with shots of orange, yellow, and red, keeps the otherwise serious palette young and fun. I would love to see these same fabrics reflected in the window treatment, as well: perhaps when paired with a bamboo shade to bring in some more of that natural element.

3. This robot art canvas from Max Grover keeps the room whimsical and fun.

4. This excellent pendant light reflects the natural tones in the bed and dresser, carrying the color scheme to the ceiling.

5. This Bratt Decor mirror is a delightfully handsome dark finish, and keeps the room masculine.

6. This Century dresser {part of the new DwellStudio furniture collection} has some awesomely vintage lines that he can use for years to come. I love the idea of bringing in more touches of red by using some fun handmade knobs like these.
